Writers rip into Peter Okoye for posting photos of himself intoxicated online

Punchng.com writers Kemi Ashefon and Anna Okon wrote a piece today criticizing Peter Okoye for posting pictures of himself getting drunk on his instagram page some days ago. See what they wrote below and tell us if you agree with them...(above; the pics that got the reporters angry)
In other climes, it may be unethical for a celebrity to flaunt his tendency to abuse drugs or alcohol. Here, celebrities, who are supposed to be role models to young minds, demonstrate their folly in public.
Or how would one describe the recent set of pictures posted by Peter Okoye of the P-Square fame? He was shown gradually getting drunk on brandy! The pictures which appeared on his Instagram page a few days ago, had Peter, in one shot, holding a glass filled with brandy to his lips. Underneath the picture is a comment from him, which says, ‘am I der yet?’ (sic). This was accompanied by a hash tag and the word ‘alcohol.’
In the second picture, a visibly intoxicated Peter, holds the same glass to the camera with the comment, ‘blame it’ after a hash tag accompanied by the word, ‘alcohol.’
Not too long ago, actress, Tonto Dikeh was alleged to have posted a picture promoting marijuana on her Instagram page.

"I wanted to be a nun' - BBA Beverly Osu says in new interview

"I wanted to be a nun' - BBA Beverly Osu says in new interview

BBA contestant Beverly Osu revealed in an interview published today that she'd wanted to be a nun but abandoned the vision in her fifth year in a convent school...

Beverly tells Punch
I attended Daughters of Divine Love Convent, Enugu State. I thought I would be a reverend sister but I abandoned the vision when I dropped out in my fifth year. I finished my secondary education in a secular institution before moving to Babcock University.  I could not finish from Babcock because I had some personal issues. Again, I dropped and enrolled at the National Open University.
It affected me in a very spiritual way. In as much as I know worldly things, I still fear God and have faith in Him. The reason why I wanted to become a nun was because I was raised in a Catholic home.  I just felt it was the best thing for me to do at that time. I used to see myself as a messenger of God. Even though I did not become a nun, I still remain faithful to God. Part of my dreams is to establish a church and do a lot of charity work.

Patience Jonathan honoured with doctorate degree in South Korea

Patience Jonathan on Thursday October 10th bagged her fourth Honorary Doctorate degree since becoming Nigeria's First Lady. She got her latest honorary degree from the Hansei University in South Korean (pictured above with the president and Chancellor of the university, Sung-Hae Kim)

The university said they honoured Aunty Patie because she had worked 'hard for many good causes'.
“She’s a humanitarian who has dedicated her life to working for the less privileged in Nigeria and Africa especially for women and children. Her vision as the defender of the poor in Nigeria fits into Hansei University’s motto of a practising Christian. Now she’s part of our community." The university chancellor Sung-Hae Kim, said
"I was surprised that she travelled here for the Church Growth International conference years back to pray for Nigeria. For her selfless work, Hansei University confers this degree on her,” Yonggi Cho, co-founder of the Hansei University, said

“I was just doing my own thing not knowing that in far away Asia everything was being noted. I want to assure you all that with God’s help I will do more. My grandma used to say: `Whatever little you have, share; If you have a thousand and you can’t share, you won’t share a million if you have’.” Mrs. Jonathan said, thanking the Koreans.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the ceremony was attended by wives of the governors of Benue and Ebonyi, wives of the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, among other dignitaries.

Air disaster averted today as IRS aircraft makes emergency landing

Another air disaster was averted this afternoon when an IRS Aircraft made an emergency landing in Kaduna. A Fokker 28 plane, carrying 89 passengers from Lagos to Kaduna, developed hydraulic problems few minutes before landing at the Kaduna airport.

The aircraft's front tyres refused to come out during landing, forcing the pilot to land without them. Fortunately no one was injured.

The Managing Director of IRS, Yemi Dada, later explained what happened to reporters. He said:
"The pilots received a low hydraulic warning minutes before landing, and this affected the landing gear, nose wheel steering, brakes, cargo doors, thrust reverser and the flight controls."
“On final approach to Kaduna today on our flight 3390 with 89 passengers, our cockpit crew got a low hydraulic in system 1 warning and decided to take precautionary measures to ask for ground confirmation that all gears were down and locked."
“The crew proceeded to land but followed procedure to disembark on the runway and not taxi in accordance with the procedure.”
He said all passengers disembarked with the assistance of a crane before the aircraft was towed to ramp. He also said the airline's maintenance crew is checking the aircraft to see what happened.

SSANU suspends strike, asks members to return duties

Abuja – The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced the suspension of its week-long strike.
The suspension of the strike is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday and signed by the association’s National Secretary, Mr Promise Adewusi.
It said that the decision to suspend the strike was informed by the Federal Government’s compliance with the association’s demands.
“Following substantial compliance to our demand for the payment of August and September salaries of our members which is the reason for our current national strike action, we hereby suspend the strike and direct all our members to return to their duties with effect from Monday, the 14th of October, 2013.”
The statement thanked members of the association for their solidarity, adding that the non payment of the salaries of its members for work done would not happen again. (NAN)

Asari-Dokubo establishes university, names it after King Amachree According to new reports, former Niger Delta militant and current leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo, is now a proud owner of a university in Benin Republic... From Premium Times The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Muhajid Asari-Dokubo has joined the swelling rank of private university proprietors with his establishment of a university in the neighbouring Republic of Benin. Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who already owns a soccer academy in the West African country and another one in Abuja, said the university, which will be known as King Amachree African University, KAAU, had already been accredited to commence degree programmes beginning September 2014. He told PREMIUM TIMES in an interview in Abuja that the proposed university, named after his ancestor, was a product of his two existing institutions in Benin Republic, namely King Amachree Automobile/ICT Royal Academy and King Amachree Arts Academy. Both of them, he added, currently award Diploma to their students. Mr. Asari-Dokubo said he chose to establish the institutions in Benin Republic because he does not only live there, but has adopted it as his country. “What we have now, we are awarding only diploma now. “By next September, Insha Allah, the university will start,” Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who dropped out of University of Calabar, he said. “For now we have King Amachree Automobile/ICT Royal Academy and King Amachree Arts Academy. Two of them were merged. We have merged the two of them into king Amachree African University. “King Amachree is my great ancestor. He was king of the Kingdom of new Calabar.” On his soccer academy, the 50 year old Mr. Asari-Dokubo, an indigene of Rivers State, who refused to be tagged a former militant, said it was established to train the youth in soccer free of charge. “We plan to engage the youths. It is free. We have a soccer academy in Abuja and we have another one in Republic of Benin,” he said. More Nigerians are forced to go to Benin Republic, Ghana, Togo and other neigbhouring countries to acquire education due to the incessant labour disputes and industrial actions within the Nigerian university system as well as the deplorable state of education in the country. Currently, students of both the federal and state universities in Nigeria are at home due to the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over the refusal of the Federal Government to honour its 2009 agreement with the union. Other unions within the education sector, including the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, have also embarked on solidarity strike while the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, and Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, are reportedly on the verge of doing towing that path. Students of the over 50 private universities in Nigeria, whose fees can only be afforded the rich, are however, in session. Mr. Asari-Dokubo is, like former Niger Delta militants enjoying massive patronage from the current administration, believe to be very wealthy but his source of income is largely unknown. There were speculation he made his fortune stealing crude oil in the Niger Delta. But he denied engaging in such practices, telling PREMIUM TIMES he had never been part of any act capable of endangering the Delta.
